Easy home recipes and Birthday Cakes for children to make together

Christmas tree recipe

Spice up your child’s snacks and birthday cakes this holiday season!

Fun “themed” snacks can help increase fruit and vegetable intake within your family. When foods are served in a creative form, children are more likely to eat the food served regardless if they may not have previously chosen to eat that specific food. Same is for birthday cakes.

This snack is perfect for children to get involved in creating. Once the apples and cheese have been cut, assembly is child proof. Their involvement in the preparation may increase acceptance of more fruits.

What is needed for this creation:

A slice of yellow cheese (preferable low fat)
5 -7 small pretzel sticks
8 green apple slices
8 craisins or raisins

Put together and enjoy!

Christmas crackers:

I used crackers as the base, then added sundried tomatoes, cheese, a touch of cream cheese, and currants.

Christmas crackers

  • Ritz Crackers
  • Sundried tomato halves
  • Cheese slices
  • Cream cheese
  • Currants

Directions:

  • Spread cream cheese on the top of the cracker using the back of a spoon.
  • Cut the sun dried tomato in half and place it over the cream cheese for the Santa hat. You might want to cut the tomato into more of a moon shape instead of a half circle, but it’s up to you.
  • Using a toothpick, add a tiny dot of cream cheese to each currant and attach as eyes. Spread cream cheese on the bottom of your cracker and attach the cheese beard.
  • Spread a tiny bit of cream cheese on the moustache and attach it to the beard. Add a dot of cream cheese to the pom pom and attach it to the hat.  There you have it! Now try this for the Birthday Cakes!
